The Uniform Patrol Division of the Leon County Sheriff's Office consists of 96 Deputy Sheriffs and Supervisors who provide world class law enforcement services to a 702 square mile area. The Deputies are assigned to one of four shifts and patrol all of Leon County including the City of Tallahassee.
The mission of the Patrol Deputies are to make Leon County a safer place to live and raise a family through public safety and community service. The Deputies actively patrol Leon County responding to calls for service from citizens, business owners and community partners. Deputies participate in community outreach, crime prevention, traffic enforcement, actively search for suspicious persons and suspicious activity. Deputies are equipped with the tools to conduct preliminary investigations and basic crime scene processing.
Each Deputy is issued a take home marked patrol vehicle with the necessary equipment needed to conduct their job. Each vehicle is outfitted with a Mobile Data Computer (MDC) which enables the Deputies to communicate with other Deputies, other law enforcement agencies and the Consolidated Dispatch Agency. All Deputies are issued an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for assisting in life saving measures and a Rapid-ID device for positively identifying persons already in the national or state databases suspecting of concealing their true identity.
The Leon County Sheriff's Office is committed to providing the Patrol Deputies with progressive and innovative training. Deputies participate in ongoing high liability law enforcement training and receive annual training on investigative skills and techniques.
In addition to being the first responders to calls for service you will often see a Patrol Deputy working a community event, a sporting event or assisting the School Resource Deputy Unit at a local school. The Deputies work daily to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community.
